Just got an email from a good hunting friend of mine from Montana. He sent me a short paragraph on his latest hunts with his dogs. Greg is nearing 80 years of age and I can testify that he has covered many hard miles in the mountains. Either with a bow or with his dogs.
I have had the privilege of hunting with him and Lucy. I raise a toast to him and the loyalty he has given his dogs. In a past blog his handle was “lucy’s pal”. He truly is.
I think we all can relate to Greg Munther’s latest hunt.
“We’ve both grayed in the muzzle over our nearly 15 years together and neither of us can hear. But even with over 1000 days afield chasing wild birds together over the years, we both dance with excitement each morning as we head afield again. It’s in our blood. Her points and retrieves these last few days brought tears to my eyes, sadly acknowledging our future days afield as a team are limited. Here’s to old bird dogs. Here’s to Lucy.”

That there is a sentiment most of us can appreciate and relate to…..words hardly do justice to what starts as a bouncy full of it,pup….and ends as a gray muzzled, much slower senior that we know is on borrowed time, yet will live in our hearts and memories until we too use up our allotted time….
Larry, I do appreciate how much and how often you convey your bond and love of your dogs..They are pretty lucky to have you…
