No chukar news

I got distracted for a week or so chasing elk. Although there is no meat in the freezer, we had a very eventful trip. The days the elk were active it poured and I got soaked trying to get a decent shot. Then it got hot and the elk disappeared. But the moose were very entertaining. I got within 10 yards of this big boy.

And Grady didn’t know what to do with this little bull.

I saw five different bulls and two cows on the trip and Barb was with me on one encounter when we saw two bulls actually spar at 25 yards through the brush. She even got some of it on film. Wish I had been packing my camera for some better shots instead of our phones.

Anyhow enough of that. We are now focused on what we love. Chukars. We are rearranging and getting ready to head somewhere for a week or maybe more hunting the Idaho hills and then probably head over to Oregon when it opens. I’ll let you know how it went.

For those who text me over the last week, I got nothing but good news from the chukar hunters. Plenty of good hunting to be had. With the weather cooling down again, get out there with the dogs and have some good chukar fun.

Hunting has been a favorite past time for me for 55 years but the last twenty five years I have been consumed by chukar hunting and more specifically chukar hunting with fantastic dogs. In this blog I hope to pass on any information I can about chukar hunting but more than anything I want to showcase what will probably be my last two chukar dogs, Jake and Grady. I am 70 years old, Jake is 8 and Grady is 3 and I'm hoping to stay on the chukar mountain until I am 80 when Grady will be fetching my final chukars.
