17 days after my not too smart accident found me on the hill chasing chukars with the boys. Although I got more miles in than expected, production was pretty poor. Mainly because of my inability to get to the dogs when they had birds. The good news is that there were plenty of birds to be had.
To add to the complications, Jake had a incident with his diabetes. I noticed him losing control coming down a mountain and acting disoriented. So from that point I gave him a little syrup and we headed for the vehicle on the best game trail we could find. It’s hard to pass up points by Grady, but it was the right thing to do. Jake is fine, but it’s what I have to do for him. He loves being out and I owe it to him for the 10 great years he gave me.
As far as me, the feeling in my left hand is a problem. Two things I do with my thumb that are normally pretty routine is push the safety off and open the barrel of the gun. With no feeling it became a chore. The only shot I took connected with a hun and the trigger finger must have worked. The kick did not seem to hurt my ribs either. Those two things are a plus but honesty has to be said about the shot. The hun about five feet behind the one I was shooting at fell to the ground. My swinging action is not too good right now. Also, my reaction time is very slow, thus not getting any other shooting action over the points.
But I’m getting nothing but positive feedback from chukar hunters. Everyone seems to be getting lots of action in, and this cold weather has produced great smells for the bird dogs. Erik B. sent me some pictures of some birds he got along with his PP Breezy. It hurts just to see that kind of success while I’m whining at home.

Steve and Mark headed home to Pocatello with stories of 18 coveys in one day. News like that make recovery even more important than ever. Although I won’t be down in Nevada this year, I also got a great report from that part of chukar country. Go get em guys and I’ll be out there with you soon.
Just one more picture I just got from another chukar guy.

Every report is from different locations. That’s how good it is out there for those who don’t mind putting the boots on the ground.
