One of the sights we all see after a snowy day is chukar tracks. How come they always seem to be going up into the deeper smow?
And up above is Grady trying to locate the birds. I’ve got hours of filming the dogs running the hills and hoping to get that shot of them slamming to a point on some birds. I can’t seem to get that shot. But sometimes I get these unwanted moments.
I call that “crap happens”. Grady ended up busting a half of dozen chukars. I would be bummed if I knew he done it on purpose, but I’ve seen him lock up on scent way more times than busting them. Such as this point by Jake down below and as I was heading down to him Grady was on a different point. It wasn’t an honor because Grady couldn’t see Jake. Jake had a small covey that flew just before the pair Grady had. You can tell when the birds flew when Jake turned to look up hill.
This last video was about twenty minutes long before I cut out all the falling and heavy breathing. I didn’t think anyone cared to see what the ground looked like under the snow or the sky looked like when I slid down the hill. But it was fun going down the steep slope to get a peak at this pair.
These were about 1/3 of the video’s I took but the rest was unsalvagable. Most of the flushes were within shotgun range but in order to get the birds flushing I had to keep the zoom mormal. Just shows how much fun a guy can have on the mountain with his dogs.
Heading out now to a local spot for some hun chasing. The ground will be a little less steep.
Love watching your dogs on point! Good boys!! Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. They may not make the bird dog trial tests, but they work perfect for me. I love showing off how we make a team on the mountain.

Should have known a little snow wouldn’t stop you from tromping the hills. Being a winter wimp by spending two months in Arizona my bride and I then skipped to the Bahamas for a couple of weeks. Hard to kennel the dogs for two weeks though.

The warmth sounds great. I’m not a big fan of the snow and cold anymore. Luckily for me it was soft snow and the ground underneath was soft also. Obviously the dogs love it.
