The dogs and I are still enjoying the chukar mountains this Spring. Luckily for me, I have a grandson and some of his friends that invite me along while they horn hunt and I find some new country. Between my dogs and these 22 year olds I’m getting lot’s of exercise.
The number of paired chukars is fantastic and, unlike during the hunting season, it is amazing how big these birds seem to be. Watching them flush and seeing the mature markings is incredible. The last place we went, not only had chukars, but we found over a dozen different Blue grouse. I’ll definitely be checking that mountain out next fall.
I haven’t been packing the camera but will start doing so again. Just in this past week we have seen a lot of cool stuff. Our first bear of 2024 watched the dogs look for birds from about 150 yards. It was a beautiful brown color. Of course the elk are still wandering around with the bulls still carrying antlers. The mule deer and white tail deer have dropped theirs. One area was pretty heavy with foxes and Conner has already made plans of trying to get one next fall when their pelts are prime. The foxes and coyotes are paired and will soon be denning up. Always a treat to find a coyote or fox den.
We also saw lion tracks in the snow and by the drag marks on each side of them, it was carrying something. Possibly a small white tail. We found this tail not too far from where we saw the tracks and I decorated Jake with it.

It is greening up really well. All of wildlife is benefitting right now thanks to the green up. And you are right about Conner. He and the dogs are making sure I continue to enjoy the outdoors.

Those dogs sure have a great life Larry. Wish we could get ours out of the house this time of year in Michigan, but the ticks will eat you alive out here. They must not be much of a problem out West?

Tom. I don’t think they’re as bad out here but we found our first one for the year crawling in the back seat of my truck. I’ll have to start inspecting the dogs and myself after our trips and start applying front line for a few months until it warms up and dries out.
