Babies

I wish I could say we found some baby chukars, but I haven’t seen any yet. But yesterday, Conner and I took a drive and a hike and saw some baby turkeys, big enough to fly up into the tree. We also had a female Ryff grouse trying to lead us away from a certain area. We didn’t find her chicks, but she acted as they do when they are trying to lead you away from chicks. Saw paired quail everywhere with no sign of little ones. Saw a bear off in the distance and dozens of deer. But the best sighting was this calf elk. We took pictures of it as Mom stood about fifty yards away, keeping an eye on us.

This is my second favorite time to be on a mountain. Everybody seems to be out fishing and the hills are a quiet place.

Hunting has been a favorite past time for me for 55 years but the last twenty five years I have been consumed by chukar hunting and more specifically chukar hunting with fantastic dogs. In this blog I hope to pass on any information I can about chukar hunting but more than anything I want to showcase what will probably be my last two chukar dogs, Jake and Grady. I am 70 years old, Jake is 8 and Grady is 3 and I'm hoping to stay on the chukar mountain until I am 80 when Grady will be fetching my final chukars.
